Ice cream is a firm favourite in any household, especially those with kids! Two ingredients that are easily available at home is coffee, and bananas! Try your hand at making this delicious Banana & Coffee Ice Cream from Checkers. The recipe uses only three ingredients and takes just five minutes to prepare. You’ll definitely go bananas for this one!

We love Angie Durrant’s food & lifestyle blog: Lucky Pony. She shares her famous Salted Caramel M&M Cookies over here. These are soft and chewy with a caramel centre, surrounded with milky chocolate M&Ms that melt in your mouth with a bit of crunch at the coating. Angie says: “If you have never made your own salted caramel sauce before, don’t stress, it’s really easy and so worth it because this sauce tastes nothing like what comes out of a squeezy bottle!” We think this would be a great one to make for the kids. Another great one from Angie’s blog is her Doughnut Cookies, which you’ll definitely want for the cookie jar at home!

Still talking about Angie’s baking skills, she calls this The Best Banana Bread Recipe Ever. I mean, are you even on lockdown if you haven’t made banana bread yet? The perfect teatime-treat, this recipe really is delicious and has been tried and tested by our team! Angie says: “It comes from my Aunt Sophie who lives in Zimbabwe and it has never failed me, in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever baked or tasted a better banana bread.” The recipe is super easy to make and all goes into one bowl. It’s so easy that soon you’ll be baking it with your eyes closed.

Still on our sweet tooth, we really love these Lemon & Blueberry Yoghurt Muffins from Sam over at Drizzle and Dip, a local food blogger and cookbook author. This recipe is super easy and quick to whip up for a sweet breakfast. The best part? They take only 10 minutes to make and are quite healthy. She adds a bit of oats to give them a nice texture and the lemon and blueberry flavours pair so perfectly. These are lovely to keep in the kitchen for a quick breakfast (serve with fresh fruit and yoghurt) or a sweet snack for the kids to grab between meals.

Still talking about Drizzle and Dip’s recipes, we love a fresh bread right out of the oven. Sam’s Perfect & Easy Wholewheat Bread requires no kneading and really is so easy to make. What we love about it is that you can really experiment and customise your bread according to the toppings and extras that you like. You can add pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds or even some dried fruit and nuts. This bread will be a real crowd-pleaser at home and is a much healthier, more wholesome alternative to long-life bread. We highly recommend giving this one a go!

While we’re talking health, you will fall in love with this Steamed Prawn & Citrus Salad from Woolworths. Quick tip: If you don’t want to steam the prawns yourself (it takes just 5 minutes) you’ll be pleased to know that Woolies sells cooked prawns as well. This salad is lovely to serve as a starter or with lunch at home. It’s fresh and the recipe also teaches you how to make your very own salad dressing using so few ingredients. We love that the recipe adds fresh chilli, so it promises to be full of flavour and crunch. We can’t wait to try this one ourselves!

For our vegetarians and carb conscious customers, you will fall in love with this Aubergine Parmigiana from Sam over at Drizzle and Dip again.  For this recipe, you’re simply making a home-made tomato sauce and then layering it with cooked aubergine and cheese before baking it to perfection. This is a lovely dinner option and will satisfy your cheese cravings as it uses both parmesan and mozzarella cheese. This dish takes only 30 minutes to bake and serves 4 people as a side or 2 people as a main. We promise that this will be a big hit at your home!

The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder, so we thought we’d add our favourite soup recipe for you. Drizzle and Dip swears by this as The Best Butternut Soup Recipe and who doesn’t love a bowl of hearty soup and fresh bread to go along with it? Don’t forget her wholewheat bread recipe if you want to be especially charming with this meal!  This recipe uses ginger and citrus to give the soup “a delicious wake-up call” as Sam says. She likes her soup to have a hint of spice, so she adds cumin, turmeric and masala to the mix. This recipe makes a big pot of soup and will definitely satisfy the whole family. Serve it with your prawn salad, wholewheat bread and finish it off with that delicious banana and coffee ice cream and you’ll be everyone’s favourite at home.

We hope that you enjoy these recipes and will try them at home. Everyone is getting more comfortable in the kitchen during lockdown! Don’t forget that our Woolies and Checkers ARE OPEN, so you’re welcome to come and do your shopping safely with us. Enjoy the cooking!
