First dates are usually a complete minefield for most of us – the nerves, the anxiety, wondering what to wear, deciding where to go. What’s more, with apps like Tinder and Bumble taking over the dating scene, often first dates are blind dates too, which can cause stress levels to skyrocket. No wonder most of us take the easy way out, choosing to meet for drinks, which, after a few glasses, can lead to its own set of problems.

That’s why if you’re looking for something different to do on your next first date, we have two words for you: food court. More specifically, the Blue Route Mall food court. No matter what type of person you are, or what type of date you’re looking for, you’ll find exactly the right spot to suit you, with a dollop of deliciousness thrown in for good measure:

Short and sweet. Worried that you’ll have to sit through an entire meal with someone you’re not into at all? Keep your first encounter a brief one by agreeing to meet for coffee, rather than a whole three course meal. Try somewhere like Dunkin’ Donuts, where you can add a yummy treat to your coffee (and argue adorably about which flavour doughnut is best), or go full sweet tooth and make a turn past Baskin-Robbins for a cone or a cup of awesome. You’ll have a delectable first date whether you vibe with the other person or not, and you won’t have to spend hours on end with them either – unless you want to, of course!231208_696b8fb47bfaede0731ed1c590aa220ad6f9ffd3.png_facebook

Fast casual. If you’re all about keeping things chilled, a fast casual restaurant is your best bet – extra points if you pair it with a movie first. With a selection including Burger King, Debonairs Pizza, and Sausage Saloon, you’ll be able to give your date a choice of eatery, and, because all the restaurants are super quick, you won’t be stuck for hours in an awkward silence either. If you do decide to pop to the cinema beforehand, you’ll have something to talk about over your meal – and if they share a slice of pizza or their chips with you, your chances of a second date are looking good!

Health nut. Not keen on spending all day indoors? Then don’t! Instead, make your first meet-up an outdoor one, and share your love of fresh air on a run, a hike, a bike ride, or whatever takes your fancy. Of course, after burning so many calories you’ll need to refuel – which makes Kauai the perfect pit-stop for a health-conscious bite. Choose from a wide variety of salads, wraps, and bowls, and who knows – your post-workout lunch could lead to you finding a gym partner for life!

Sit and stay. Finally, if you’re feeling brave, just go for broke and organise to meet for an actual meal, rather than a quick snack or a coffee. This option isn’t for the faint-hearted though – because if by some stroke of bad luck, your date turns out to be not so great, you’re still in it until the bill comes. The best way to ensure an awesome evening? By meeting at a restaurant that’s known for its mouth-watering menu, like Silver Mountain Spur, Ocean Basket, or Jakura Sushi & Asian Cuisine. You know you’ll be getting a meal that’s full of flavour, and you can see how your date interacts with your server too (hot tip – bad manners equals no second date). If you’re not feeling it, you can leave after your main course. And if you are, order dessert and see just how sweet the rest of the evening turns out!
